The aim of this group is to provide songwriters with an honest critique of their music.

I think a songwriting group that meets regularly (perhaps once a week) and provides an honest critique from its members to its members would be invaluable for song development.

I also imagine the group would become another way to make contacts in the industry which any songwriter knows is key to success.

I'm a songwriter. When I write a song, if I love it I'll take it to an audience. Before I get to that stage, I want to take it to people and ask them what they think of it. This group is a way of doing that.

I haven't found such a group yet so I'd like to start one.

• hey i dont live so close to you, but i think its a good idea, i write stuff and i never know what people are gonna think, and i find my friends are always nice and polite, i need my stuff to be stripped bare, and a true critique given, so if i was closer id be there, so keep it up mate:)

• Very odd. I am a songwriter and my name is also Mike Whiteley. I guess stranger things have happened, but this took me by surprise. I assume that your group will meet in person, and I live in Texas, US, so my involvement with your writer's circle won't work. I would like to share my work as well as listen to others, but that would obviously have to be done online or via email. If it matters, I write country music.   I hope you get the group together of likeminded lovers of songwriting. I've added a link from our blog to this pledgebank page. So here's hoping you get more people together.
  
  In the meantime why don't you guys all come to Brighton Songwriters. We have a fantastic songcamp planned for Sunday 28 March. Tickets will be under £20 a total bargain and there's an optional evening showcase to strut your stuff.
