More details
Following the Israeli attack on Gaza last January, Israel is only allowing limited medical supplies and some foods in to Gaza. Everything else is banned: toilet paper, toothbrushes, bedding, clothing, musical instruments, paper, pens, children’s toys ... and books.
On 5th December I will be travelling with the Viva Palestina convoy which will be joining others from Ireland, Europe, Turkey and Arab countries to bring aid (and hope!) to Gaza.
On two previous occasions - presumably to avoid negative media coverage - nearly all the supplies that have been brought by the convoys have been allowed through. This is, therefore, a golden opportunity to provide schools and universities with some stationery and books.
The university has written a wishlist which is too long to print here, so let me know if you'd like me to send it to you. It will be discouraging for the students if there is only a low level of interest in their wishlist. Apart from ensuring that students have something to read, this is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate to the people of Gaza that they have not (entirely) been forgotten by the rest of the world.
