I am asking people to join me in pledging £7 – an amount that most people won’t miss, especially at this time of year. You may have that much in your change jar or down the back of your sofa! I hope that 7 is a lucky number because I very much want to succeed in this.
Amim Asiimwe is a student at Makerere University Business School, Kampala, Uganda. My sister met him when she visited Bwindi Orphans Development Centre earlier this year, when he was a volunteer having been supported through his education by the orphanage. 'Friends of Bwindi Orphanage' was asked to find a sponsor for Amim when he won a place at college but so far have been unsuccessful. Please see http://www.friendsofbwindiorphanage.org/... for more information.
Fees for the next semester are due soon. The amount aimed for in this pledge would cover the tuition fees for the second semester.
Amim is spending Christmas and the New Year in Kampala and won’t be returning to Bwindi to see family and friends, which will be particularly difficult for him because he had never been away from Bwindi before he began his course in October. It would be an amazing gift if we could tell Amim that his tuition fees are covered and that he has friends around the world who are thinking about him.
What can you buy with £7? A pair of joke socks, a few strands of tinsel – a couple of drinks at the pub perhaps.
Please raise a glass to Amim, show your support and join the pledge. It could be the most valuable gift you give this year.
Please ask your friends to consider joining too!

Just thought non-UK people might like to know that!
You can still support Amim if you haven't yet joined the pledge - any extra contributions can go towards next semester's fees and living expenses. The only overheads are bank transfer fees - 'Friends of Bwindi Orphanage' is entirely run by volunteers, even our website was provided free of charge.
Have a great 2008,
Amanda
